Coffee is a lot like poetry.
Its beauty lies not only in the final experience, but in everything that happens before it. The growing, the roasting, the waiting, the brewing. Every step shapes the story in your cup.
Yet one of the most overlooked parts of that journey is what happens after the coffee reaches your home.
Freshly roasted coffee carries delicate aromas and flavours that make each sip memorable. But time, air, moisture, heat and light can slowly take those qualities away. That’s why how you store your coffee matters just as much as how you brew it.
Whole beans naturally hold onto their character longer, while ground coffee begins losing freshness almost immediately after grinding. To preserve flavour, store your coffee in an airtight container, away from sunlight, heat and humidity. A cool cupboard is often the perfect place.
Contrary to popular belief, refrigerators aren’t ideal. Coffee absorbs surrounding odours and moisture easily, which can dull its flavour. For long-term storage, unopened coffee can be frozen, but for everyday use, simplicity works best.
At Black Poetry, we believe great coffee deserves patience and care. Because freshness isn’t just about preserving flavour, it’s about preserving the intention behind every roast, every bean and every cup.
After all, like good poetry, great coffee reveals itself best when given the attention it deserves.
